All Rise For Star Apprentice!

Everyone loves a success story, and this week we are thrilled to be celebrating the success of our very own Rebecca!

She has spent the last year as Receptionist and Customer Service Assistant via the Apprenticeship scheme run by Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce (DNCC). Due to her commitment and continued progression within the role, as well as ongoing growth within our Family Law department, she will not be leaving us on July 31st, but instead is being promoted to Assistant to the Family Department to continue her training and career development with us.

“We are absolutely thrilled with Rebecca’s progress here at Bakers” said Managing Partner, David Parkes. “She has quickly proven herself to be a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual, able to learn and adapt quickly. As our Family department is growing at a considerable rate, she has had to hit the ground running, making those skills all the more impressive”.

Originally Rebecca had planned to become a Teacher’s Assistant but after completing college she was so in demand in her multiple part-time roles that she was always too busy working ( and enjoying earning a full time wage!) to begin a degree. She began to crave more of a challenge and to get her foot on the career ladder, but at twenty-four, worried that she had left it too late to be a trainee or apprentice in a professional field. When she saw the position at Bakers, she knew it would be the perfect career to utilise her excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, whilst also giving her the chance to be a vital part of a thriving local business and to really make a difference in the work that she did. Determined to get the job, it was the only apprenticeship she applied for and she prepared so thoroughly and performed so well at her interview on a Friday that she started in the job the very next week!

“This has been, and continues to be, a steep learning curve” added Rebecca, “but I can see a real career path opening up before me and I love the challenge. I am so lucky to have had fantastic support from my tutor Ingrid Brunt, and case worker at the DNCC, Carole Harrison, and look forward to completing my Level 3 NVQ in Business Administration. I now plan to continue training to become a Legal Secretary.”

It just goes to show, where there’s a will (a bit of courage and a good dose of hard-work) there is most definitely a way.

Here at Bakers we are committed to the continued growth and development of our business through investing in the people that make it special; our excellent team. We are proud to work closely with organisations like the DNCC to ensure we have access to dedicated people with a range of skills and experiences and believe that being part of our community is a vital part of our business.
