BAKERS SOLICITORS PROUD TO BE PART OF THE MLC WINTER BALL SUCCESS

07 February 2014

Bakers Solicitors were very proud to sponsor the Mummy Lunch Club (MLC) Winter Ball on Saturday 1 February in aid of the charity Mummy’s Star. The generosity shown on the night was astounding as a total of £5650 was raised for the charity.

Mummy’s Star was established in June 2013, in memory of Hadfield resident Mair Wallroth, to support women and families diagnosed with cancer in pregnancy or with 12 months of a birth as Mair had been. It is the first and only charity of its kind in the UK.

As well as the support given from Bakers Solicitors, generosity and support was also given from businesses and traders near and far. Auction prizes ranged from a signed Sale Sharks Rugby game and 4 tickets to a home game, an England shirt signed by Gary Neville, a Manchester United shirt signed by Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville, an iPad, supplied and fitted patio and much, much more. The committee also managed to secure 2 holidays; a week’s stay at the 4* Grove Lodge in Scarborough along with a weekend break in Nice courtesy of Pebbles Rentals.

The event also saw the first airing of the new Mummy’s Star promotional storyboard which drew a very powerful and emotional response from the audience.

Since starting last year, the charity has grown very quickly to raise awareness of the often unreported instances of cancer diagnosis in pregnancy or after birth and the additional challenges that women and families face in this situation. It is already supporting several families right across the country and has received endorsement from Macmillan for the work they are doing. Pete Wallroth, who founded the charity in memory of his wife said “The MLC committee have put on a fantastic night in aid of Mummy’s Star and we are incredibly grateful to them for all the amazing work that has gone into this night. It has raised so much which will go towards helping those families who need our support and allow us to commission research into cancer in pregnancy so we get a better idea of how often this occurs to raise further awareness of the challenges these families face and their support needs”
