CORRIE'S HAYLEY CROPPER LAUNCHES BAKERS XMAS TOY APPEAL

Christmas is just around the corner and while it can be a time of happiness and excitement, it is also an occasion when we need to think of others.

Bakers Solicitors and the Glossop Chronicle are holding a Christmas Toy Appeal for the children supported by High Peak Womens’ Aid  and are appealing to our readers to dig deep this Xmas and buy an extra present to help make a less fortunate child’s Christmas far more special than it otherwise may have been.

Launched by Julie Hesmondhalgh, Coronation Street’s much loved Hayley Cropper and children from the Duke of Norfolk primary school, we are hoping to make it a record breaking appeal which will spread the Christmas spirit far beyond our immediate friends and family.

It doesn’t have to cost a lot to bring a smile and much needed Christmas cheer to deserving young people who, through no fault of their own, are vulnerable or face hardship.

In fact it doesn’t have to cost ‘any’ money at all to donate a gift.   We are appealing for ‘NEW’ gifts, so look out for the ‘ buy one get one free’ or ‘buy three for the price of two’ offers that are bound to be available this year – and then your pocket won’t even notice the pinch!!!   We would also be grateful for any unwanted gifts you may have received last year.

Children receiving the toys will be aged up to 16 – so please don’t forget the teenagers.  Donation gifts should also be presented ‘unwrapped’ so that personnel from High Peak Women’s Aid can select the appropriate gift dependent upon the recipient child’s interests.

Childrens’ parties are held from the end of November, so please don’t leave it to the last minute to buy your gifts, although if you are not able to call in until just before Xmas, Santa will oblige and ensure that he makes a pick-up before the ‘big’ delivery!!!

Toys and gifts should be dropped at Bakers Solicitors, High Street West (look out for the Toy Appeal banner) from 9am – 5pm on a Monday to Friday, where they will be held in safekeeping before forwarding to High Peak Women’s Aid.  Nearer to Xmas Bakers will open on a Saturday to accommodate those donators who are unable to drop off their gifts during the week.

Angela Thorp, Head of the Family Department at Bakers Solicitors says ‘We are delighted to be involved in this Xmas Toy Appeal and its so important that we ensure that children supported by this wonderful organization don’t go without and have just as good a Christmas as those from families who don’t face hardship.’

Jan Lee from High Peak Women’s Aid added ‘We are so grateful for Bakers Solicitors and the Chronicle for making this appeal happen.  Christmas is a time for children and each gift that we receive will bring a great deal of happiness to the homeless families we support,  who are taking very important steps to get their lives back on track.’
